Industry Engagement

Let’s Work Together

At the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, innovation moves from discovery to real-world impact.

Whether you are building the next generation of medical devices, advancing diagnostics, developing therapeutics or expanding health care technologies, Texas Biomedical Engineering offers meaningful ways to engage with our students, researchers and community.

We focus on industry engagement in three key areas:

  • Workforce development
  • Collaborative senior design projects
  • Sponsored research

How to Hire Our Students

Texas BME students are technically strong, research-driven and industry-ready.

Undergraduate and graduate students gain experience in research laboratories, multidisciplinary teams and clinically grounded design courses. Many complete internships, and most engage in hands-on research before graduation.

Connect with us to:

  • Post internships and full-time roles
  • Participate in recruiting events
  • Host information sessions

When you hire a Texas Biomedical Engineering graduate, you gain a problem-solver who is ready to contribute immediately.

Senior Design Projects

Our capstone senior design program connects industry challenges with student innovation.

Teams of students work with faculty and companies to develop functional prototypes addressing real clinical and technological needs. In these year-long courses, students engineer and design product prototypes, working under the guidance of faculty and industry mentors. Companies receive early-stage concept development, structured design documentation and direct access to emerging talent.

Capstone Project Sponsors

Sponsoring a project is a high-impact way to advance innovation while helping shape the next generation of biomedical engineers.

Project ideas come from physicians, industry leaders and researchers who have identified a technological gap that a new or improved device may address. Students and an engineering faculty member work with their project sponsor to specify the problem, identify and evaluate solutions, propose new or improved devices and prototype their best design.

At the end of the course, students will deliver a prototype and design report to their sponsor.

Sponsored Research

Through sponsored research, companies collaborate with leading faculty and talented Longhorn students to advance technologies, accelerate development and address complex clinical challenges.

We work closely with sponsors to align research with strategic goals, establish clear milestones and support meaningful, long-term collaboration.
