From Idea to Impact: UT Student Rethinks How Surgeons are Trained

What if surgeons could get real-time, objective feedback on one of the most difficult skills to master during open surgery: how gently and precisely they handle human tissue? This exact question prompted recent biomedical engineering graduate Janavi Seshadri to lead the development of a surgical training tool that uses sensors to measure pressure and movement during simulated procedures. 

Four years later, her idea has grown into a multidisciplinary effort supported by clinical mentorship and pilot funding. Seshadri and her team are one step closer to transforming how surgeons prepare for complex procedures.
