Professor Mia K. Markey and Gracie Vargas, Ph.D. '01 an associate professor with the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, have both been selected to serve as charter members of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biomedical Imaging Technology Study Section Center for Scientific Review. Selections are based on merit and achievements exhibited by research efforts, scientific journal publications, noteworthy scientific endeavors, and other honors.
Markey and Vargas will serve from October 2011 through 2015, committing much professional time and energy to the biomedical imaging technology field. Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science.
