Below are organizations that support diverse engineering student populations:
Cockrell School Cares is an external-facing committee of the Student Engineering Council that promotes self-care, mental health, diversity, and inclusion within the Cockrell School of Engineering and on campus as a whole.
WBME at the University of Texas at Austin works closely with the Cockrell School of Engineering and their Women in Engineering Program (WEP) to foster a community among women in BME.
Pi Sigma Pi (PSP) is a minority academic engineering society that works to unite and increase the number of minority engineering students who succeed academically, lead professionally and contribute passionately to their communities.
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) works to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
UT Austin’s Black Women in STEM (BWiS UT) aims to serve and highlight the accomplishments of black women in STEM. They host social events and feature black, female students at UT.
FLI is an academic, professional and personal development initiative for African American women and Latinas. Weekly Interest Groups are held on Mondays.
UT-SHPE empowers the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. They offer resources for professional development and social engagement.
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Señoritas Committee is in charge of planning, publicizing, and putting together different events and programs for the senoritas within UT-SHPE. Members take responsibility over various Latina-led events where members are able to gain valuable skills such as event planning, project management, and budget keeping.
The UT Society of Women Engineers works to create a welcoming community that allows women engineering students to develop as leaders. They welcome members across all engineering disciplines and provide a community of friends, a professional network, and a wealth of resources.
AWIS at UT strives to connect its members with women in STEM careers in Austin. They work closely with the Austin Association for Women in Science.
Re-sonate strives to empower collegiate women pursuing careers in technology by providing growth opportunities, creating a strong peer network, and ultimately inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
LGBTQIA+ Engineers intends to recruit, retain, and graduate LGBTQ+ students and allies by providing a safe space for discussion, awareness, and support. They host frequent socials and meetings to provide a safe space for people to talk about LGBTQ+ issues and get to know each other, in addition to advocating for LGBTQ+ people in engineering and beyond.
oSTEM at UT Austin aims to provide UT Austin LGBTQ students in STEM fields with resources to develop their professional skills as LGBTQ/STEM students. These professional skills will include networking, communication, and self-representation as an openly LGBTQ student participating in the job market.
SASE aims to prepare Asian heritage scientists and engineers for success in the global business world, to celebrate diversity and participate socially on campus, and to provide opportunities for members to make contributions to their local communities.
