The Graduate School, which was established in 1910, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. In honor of the milestone, the school published a commemorative anniversary book titled "Changing the World: Stories Celebrating 100 Years of Graduate Education at The University of Texas at Austin" that profiles 100 alumni—including one from the Biomedical Engineering Department: Jennifer Barton, who received her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering in 1998 and her B.S. in electrical engineering in 1988.

Barton chairs the biomedical engineering program at the University of Arizona. She is a professor in biomedical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and optical sciences. She is also a director of the BIO5 Institute, a collaboration between University of Arizona researchers, scientists, and students working in the fields of science, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, and engineering to find solutions to complex biology-based challenges.
