Yicun (Peter) Jian, a senior in Biomedical Engineering, was recently recognized by Virginia Polytechnic Institute for his outstanding research accomplishments this past summer. Peter was awarded a Summer Undergraduate Research Program Fellowship for research studies in Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was one of only 30 students chosen from around the country to participate in this prestigious program, with a fully funded research project. While at Virginia Tech, Peter worked in the area of “novel antimicrobial polymer fictionalization techniques” and was awarded both the “Exceptional Student Award” and the “Best Presentation Award”. This represented two out of the three awards that are given out each year in this program. Finally, Peter continues to excel in his research project here at UT, where he recently submitted his first co-authored research publication in the Proceedings of The American Institute of Chemical Engineers Annual Meeting. Peter is supervised by Donald Owens, III, a ChE PhD candidate and NSF/IGERT fellow.
