Pamela Basto, a senior in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, won a $2,000 Record Scholarship from Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society. Basto was one of 69 undergraduates chosen out of a pool of 189 Tau Beta Pi applicants nationwide. She also was the only engineering student chosen from the entire UT system. The Tau Beta Pi Fellowship Board selected Basto based on her campus leadership, scholarship, service and the "promise of future contributions to the engineering profession."

Tau Beta Pi was founded at Lehigh University in 1885. With 226 collegiate chapters and active alumnus chapters in 16 cities in the U.S., Tau Beta Pi is the world's largest engineering society.
