The University of Texas at Austin will host the Biomedical Engineering Society’s (BMES) 2010 Annual Meeting. This year’s Distinguished Speakers Session, sponsored by the Cockrell School’s Biomedical Engineering Department, includes four prestigious professors and researchers—all of whom will focus on future frontiers in the field of biomedical engineering during their discussions.

Distinguished Speakers

Dr. George Georgiou, a professor and researcher with the Biomedical and Chemical Engineering Departments at the University of Texas at Austin will give a talk entitled “Engineering The Next Generation of Cancer Therapeutic Enzymes and Antibodies.”


Dr. Douglas Lauffenburger, professor and head of the Department of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will speak on “Bioengineering in Drug Discovery: Predictive Understanding of Cell Regulatory Network Operation.”


Dr. Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic, professor and director of the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering at Columbia University, will give a presentation entitled “Stem cells, Tissue Engineering, and Regenerative Medicine: Challenges Ahead.”


Dr. Lihong Wang, professor and researcher at Washington University in St. Louis, will give a presentation entitled “Photoacoustic Tomography: Breaking Through the Optical Diffusion Limit.”


 The Distinguished Speakers Session is open to all registrants of the BMES 2010 Annual Meeting and will take place on October 8, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
