Professor Aaron Baker has recently joined The University of Texas at Austin’s Biomedical Engineering Department.
Dr. Baker specializes in cardiovascular biology—specifically devices and interventional technologies to prevent atherosclerosis and restenosis. His research focuses on vascular mechanotransduction, or the study of cell and tissue responses to mechanical forces. Additionally, his lab works to advance vascular drug delivery and testing of drugs to be used for vessel regrowth and heart revascularization.
He is excited about teaching Texas' undergraduate and graduate students in biomechanics and transport phenomena and will develop new courses in these areas.
Dr. Baker is the author of more than 30 publications published in major journals and has generated two patents. He has received funding from the Whitaker Foundation, Hughes Foundation, and most recently, the American Heart Association through a National Scientist Development Grant. Dr. Baker has won numerous awards and scholarships, including a recent first place abstract award from the European Society of Cardiology.
He received his Ph.D. in medical engineering and medical physics from the Division of Health Sciences Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School, where he also conducted his postdoctoral research.
