WBME has hosted events to advance the professional skills and experiences for all graduate students in biomedical engineering. Events included panels with BME alumni successfully working industry, lunch-and-learn sessions with biotechnology companies, and professional development seminars on salary negotiation and perfecting elevator speeches.

The Graduate Student Leadership Awards in Engineering were established in 2008 through an endowment by Abtine Tavassoli, PhD in Electrical Engineering, December 2007. Two awards are presented each year. Each recipient receives a framed certificate and a $200 check.
