At the Innovative Instructional Technology Awards Program (IITAP) tenth anniversary awards program and showcase on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, Dr. Mia K. Markey and her team took the Silver Award for Teaching with Technology. The teams' project was "An Instructional Technology Scaffold for Reinforcing Learning of Probability and Statistics"

This project was designed to facilitate active learning and emphasize real-world applications in an introductory undergraduate biomedical engineering course on probability and statistics (BME 335). It integrates multiple instructional technologies, including BlackBoard®, hyperlinked PowerPoint® notes, Classroom Performance System (CPS) technology, and "real-world" MATLAB®-intensive problems to create an integrated lecture-lab environment which supports aspects of successful student learning, such as communication, course material review, on-going feedback, and practice in problem-solving.

Team members included: James Byrne, Seth Hays, Steven Ma, Hyunjin Shin, and Kathy Schmidt. Video on the details of the project is available here.
