The Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) recently awarded undergraduate biomedical engineering student Oscar Ayala with a $1500 Educational Scholarship in Optical Science and Engineering.

Ayala has been involved with a number of projects involving optical design, construction of laboratory equipment and preparation of animal protocols. His goal is to merge his engineering background to help others and to continue in a graduate program.

Ayala is one recipient out of 137 to be awarded a scholarship from SPIE. SPIE is an international optics and photonics society founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies
