Nicholas A. Peppas is the recipient of the 2010 Biomedical Engineering Society Distinguished Achievement Lecture Award. The BMES Distinguished Achievement Award is presented each year to a company, charitable foundation, or nonacademic institution that has made great contributions to the field of biomedical engineering. The head of that organization receives a lecture award and is expected to deliver a plenary lecture at the BMES Annual Meeting and to publish the text of the lecture in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, the official journal of BMES. An important purpose of the lecture is to offer a vision of the challenges and opportunities in biomedical engineering. Dr. Peppas will deliver his plenary lecture, titled "From Drug Delivery and Targeted Therapeutics to Advanced Intelligent Biomedical Devices for Improved Health Care," at the 2010 BMES Annual Meeting on Friday morning, October 8, 2010, at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas..
