Research Bench to Better Living
For breast cancer survivors, deciding on a reconstruction method can be difficult. Professor Mia K. Markey collaborates with Dr. Gregory Reece, a physician and professor of plastic surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, to develop computational decision making aids that help survivors become more informed about the different methods available to them.
Professor Chong Xie and his collaborator, Dr. Ying Han, an ophthalmologist from University of California San Francisco (UCSF), have received funds from a UCSF Catalyst Award and That Man May See. The awards will provide seed funding for Xie and Han to develop an improved glaucoma implant device.
A noninvasive method to gain information about the progression of multiple myeloma, a cancer formed by malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow, is in development.
