Rochal Industries, a privately owned research company in San Antonio, Texas, has received funding through an Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to conduct further research on a wound dressing technology developed in Professor Laura Suggs’ lab.
The Phase 1 grant will provide funding to both Rochal Industries and Professor Suggs over the course of the next six to ten months. During that time they will generate data on a healing treatment that can be used to treat the type of complex wounds that affect soldiers on the battlefield. The treatment can both fight infection and speed healing. Also, with its long shelf life and sturdy composition, the treatment is ideal for combat conditions.
Provided that Phase 1 is successful, Rochal Industries and Suggs will be eligible to apply for Phase 2 funding, which will involve preclinical testing of the material.
