BME graduating senior Steven Hsiang-yu Ma is the recipient of the Cockrell School of Engineering Outstanding Scholar – Leader Award.
BME graduating senior Steven Hsiang-yu Ma is the recipient of the Cockrell School of Engineering Outstanding Scholar – Leader Award. The award is presented each year to a graduating senior in recognition of sustained superior academic performance and exceptional leadership while pursuing an engineering degree at The University of Texas at Austin. Only one senior is chosen each year from the School’s entire senior class to receive the honor. The award was announced at the Cockrell School of Engineering commencement exercises May 16.
The selection of Steven, who graduated with highest honors, was based not only on his outstanding academic achievements, but also on his extensive service to the community and the University. He served as a Freshman Interest Group (FIG) mentor to first year students. He worked in research with professor George Georgiou and interned with MD Anderson Cancer Center. As a leader, he was active in the BME honor society, a graduate of LeaderShape Texas, and a member of the Engineering Leadership Team. He also was active with SEEK, Student Engineers Educating Kids.
