For the sixth consecutive year, a number of biomedical engineering juniors are taking the biomedical transport course (BME 353) in Cambridge, England, while at the same time enjoying cultural activities of the area and the British countryside. This study abroad opportunity is part of an engineering-wide faculty-led initiative enjoyed by biomedical engineering undergraduate students. The Department of Biomedical Engineering began offering study abroad programming with Professor Ken Diller teaching the first group of biomedical engineering students in Cambridge in May 2006, while Professor Randi Voss taught a course in Lille, France, from 2006 to 2008 at the Ecole Centrale de Lille, France. In 2007, Professor Krishnendu Roy taught a class in Lille and in 2008, Professors Stanislav Emelianov and Andrew Dunn taught courses in Paris and Lille, respectively. From 2009 to the present, the department has offered a Maymester Abroad program through Professor Diller's course in Cambridge. The students are particularly excited to study in a foreign setting while also learning about the local culture.
