Graduate student Lorenzo D’Amico and undergraduate Ross Malik have each received awards to conduct research internationally from the Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program.

D’Amico, who works in Dr. Peter Gascoyne’s lab, has received a Whitaker International Summer Program Grant to conduct research in the United Kingdom. Malik, who works in Dr. Christine Schmidt’s lab, has received a Whitaker International Fellow Grant to conduct research in Spain.

Both will receive a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, tuition costs, and health insurance for the period of the grant.

The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program is highly competitive and D’Amico’s and Malik’s were two of 40 high-quality projects selected.

The program is a hands-on international experience that seeks to help developing scientists open their minds to think and analyze on a global level, build individual and institutional partnerships, and establish dialogues between the scientific community in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
